Two New Homes Built for Vulnerable Families in Ampara District

Thanks to the generous support of the Krishnakumar Family (USA), Vanni Hope has successfully completed two new homes for vulnerable families in the villages of Kayathiripuram and Thampattai, located in the Thirukkovil DS Division of Ampara District.
These projects were carried out under our Community Development – Shelter for Life initiative, providing families in unsafe, temporary housing with permanent, secure shelter. The homes were officially handed over to the beneficiaries after several months of planning, construction, and careful supervision by our field staff.
Dignity and Stability for Kanisthika’s Family
In Kayathiripuram, the family of Kanisthika had been living in a cramped and fragile hut that lacked basic protection from the elements. With limited income and no resources to build a safer structure, they faced daily hardship and insecurity. Through this initiative, a new house with two rooms, a veranda, concrete flooring, and a waterproof roof was constructed for the family. The home also includes a proper toilet and access to a water supply, fundamental necessities for a life with dignity.
A Life-Changing Impact for Uthayavani’s Family
In neighbouring Thampattai, the family of Uthayavani faced even greater hardship. Her husband, Mr. Pratheepan, lost his mobility following a tragic workplace accident in 2011. Since then, the family has struggled to survive without a stable income, living in a poorly built hut with their three children. The new home now offers the family a safer and more dignified space—equipped with proper roofing, concrete flooring, sanitation facilities, and access to clean water.
Building a Stronger Foundation for the Future
Each house was thoughtfully designed to ensure long-term durability and comfort. The construction incorporated affordable materials and practical features, such as shaded verandas and water supply connections. These projects not only give physical shelter but also rebuild hope and provide a foundation for future wellbeing and empowerment.
