Eastern Province
Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Super Speciality Hospital, Batticaloa, is a charitable medical institution dedicated to providing comprehensive free cardiac care to underserved communities across Sri Lanka’s Eastern Province. The hospital ensures that no patient is denied lifesaving heart care due to financial hardship.
Cardiovascular disease remains one of the leading causes of illness and death in Sri Lanka. For families in the Eastern Province, accessing specialised cardiac services has traditionally required long-distance travel and significant expense—often resulting in delayed or foregone treatment. Sanjeevani Cardiac Center was established to remove these barriers and bring advanced heart care closer to home.

A major milestone in regional healthcare has been the establishment of the Eastern Province’s first and only free cardiac catheterization laboratory at Sanjeevani. Thousands of angiograms, stent procedures, and paediatric cardiac interventions have already been performed, restoring health and hope to patients who would otherwise have limited access to such care.

Sanjeevani works in close collaboration with Batticaloa Teaching Hospital and Base Hospital Akkaraipattu, ensuring continuity of care from diagnosis through intervention and follow-up. Drs Vinodhan and Arulranitham have sperheaded this partnership with Sanjeevani Hospital. This partnership model strengthens the public health system while supporting skills transfer and capacity building within government hospitals.
