Emergency Care Strengthening Program (ECSP)

Updated: May 23

Divisional hospitals are the first point of contact for medical emergencies in

rural areas of SriLanka. However, the facilities are undersourced and lack

basic life-saving equipment and trained personnel. Many are closing due to

the emigration of medical staff seeking better opportunities. Thus, forcing

patients to travel farther to the base hospitals causes a delay in treatment and

leading to poor outcomes.

ECSP aims to enhance the treatment capacity by providing the necessary life

saving equipment and training the medical personnel in collaboration with the regional director of health services (RDHS). These interventions will lead

to better patient outcomes and reduce mortality.
