The Sri Gananatha Moral Development School in Vantharumoolai, Batticaloa District, recently hosted a vibrant Thai Pongal celebration, bringing together students, teachers, and community members to mark this traditional harvest festival. This special event was sponsored by the Nalliah Foundation and implemented by Vanni Hope as part of our commitment to supporting Moral Development Schools under our Community Development projects.
A Celebration of Culture and Community
Thai Pongal, a festival deeply rooted in Tamil heritage, is a time for gratitude, unity, and joy. At Sri Gananatha Moral Development School, the celebrations were filled with dancing, singing, and a shared meal, fostering a strong sense of togetherness among the students and staff. Events like these play a crucial role in preserving cultural traditions while promoting education, moral values, and social engagement within the community.

Supporting Students Beyond the Celebration
Understanding the challenges faced by students in this region, Vanni Hope went beyond the celebrations by providing each student with a Vanni Hope umbrella. This initiative was particularly important as Vantharumoolai often experiences heavy rains and flash flooding, creating difficulties for students commuting to school. By equipping them with umbrellas, we aim to ensure that weather conditions do not become a barrier to their education.

The Role of Moral Development Schools
Moral Development Schools play a vital role in shaping young minds, instilling ethical values, and providing quality education in underserved areas. Through continued support from organisations like Vanni Hope and the Nalliah Foundation, these schools are able to offer students not only academic learning but also cultural enrichment and personal development opportunities.

Continuing Our Commitment
At Vanni Hope, we believe that education is the foundation of a thriving community, and our work with Moral Development Schools reflects our ongoing efforts to empower students and create brighter futures. Events like the Thai Pongal celebration not only honour traditions but also strengthen community spirit and resilience.
